- Who is Goobs: Well, Goobs is me, the name comes from the fact that I have a German surname that People can't pronounce very well, which is Guebert. I've heard so many ways to pronounce it it's funny, as a kid I hated it, but now I couldn't care less. If you want to know you don't pronounce the "U" and you use the "E" like "EEEE", on paper it would look something like Geebert or Gebert, but the original spelling for Guebert was "Güebert", the umlaut on the U to silent it. But with all confusion aside, The name "Goobs" originated from my Secondary school days when started as a way to pick on me, before it then became a nickname with no negativity to it, friends on my class would call me Goobs a lot, so did people from other classes, even my Form Tutor would casually call me "Goobs" on lunch break. Since then it disappeared when I was in Sixth-form and university, but it would return when I got into my current work, when two of my Superiors used the name "Guebes", which sounded like "Goobs", well, not "sounds like", it was the damn same! The difference was how it was written on a white board, they assumed that the "UE" in the name was prounced like the first sound in "eww" rather than "ee". When I saw it on the board I rubbed it out and replaced it with "Goobs". And that's how the "Goobs" name lives on. Looking back, My Dad had a simelar nickname when he was in the Navy, except he was named "Geebs", emphasising the "EE" sound in "Guebert" rather than my "Goobs" which depicts "UE" as "OO...". Somewhere in my shed, I do believe that I have his "Geebs" mock American car licence plate, I should take a picture of it if I ever dig it up!
- Places I've lived: Well, when my Dad was in the Navy, and when I was between 2-4, my family and I lived in different places around Europe, I've Lived in Sicily, Italy, Spain, and Germany. My Dad was situated at different Air bases around Europe, doing, well, Navy things! lol, I don't really know what my Dad actually did during this time, though he has told me a few years a go that in his early training we was sent into a mock kidnapping. They didn't tell him and his ship mates about it, they thought they got kidnapped by Russian and took torture by being kicked in the Kidneys that cause them to urinate blood, ick! The whole point of the exercise is to resist leaking information. As you can imagine... My Dad was a bit pissed when the "So called Russians" turned out to be West Germans who have studied Russian Language and working along sire the allies, he didn't appreciate the fact that he was urinating blood for 4 days! Thing is, this happened in the late 70s, before I was born, so that had nothing to do with the Europe sites. To be honest I was too young to really know what was happening. We then went back to live in the UK when my Dad got himself a job working for the American Embassy in London in 1988. In 1992, my Dad returned to the Navy to work on a Harrier in the Indian Ocean, but we weren't going to live on an Aircraft harrier! heh, that I was in school. In 1994 my parents split up and divorce, Dad retired from the Navy and went back to live the in States with who became my step mother in Missouri. Even though I don't live with my Dad, he always tells me that his home is my second home.Just throwing this out there, but my Step Mother died this year on the 1st of April. She was a lovely lady who brought my Sister in the world. And I wish I was there to support them through their ordeal, but it was so sudden and I couldn't afford to get over there in time...
Long live the memory of Sarah J. Guebert! - Where I work: Hmm... Not sure if I should mention this in Public, but all I'm going to say is that I'm not satisfied with what I have. Sure I'm getting paid when others aren't. Sure, I should be happy, but when you feel like you're being ignored, despite the fact that you're needed all the time at the same time. It's not nice. I'm ending this now before I spill anything else out! >:P
